The Librarian's Brief

The Federal University Gusau Library took off at the University permanent site on 4th January, 2015 with little over 4,000 books and 265 journals(local and international). The collection then, was largely donations from Book Aid for Africa and Sir Emeka Offor Foundation and later from Prof. A. D. Forbes & Allen Forbes and some other prominent individuals. These materials were processed and displayed in readiness for academic activities later that year.

At the moment our Main Library is located in the newly built Multipurpose Hall near the Faculty of Humanities and the University Medical Center. The Library is serving the four Faculties and over Twenty Departments. Even as a baby Library, we boast of a collection of about Two hundred and twenty Six thousand (226,000)volumes of books and about Six thousand, Seven hundred and Forty Six thousand(6,746) volumes of periodicals/serials, made up of Local and Foreign Journals, Newsletters, Magazines, Bulletins etc. We also have a sizable collection of Newspapers.

At first we started with just one National Daily and currently we buy three different National Dailies, we hope to add another title in the near future. The Library will very soon automate its operations and services which will give our users a campus wide access to the resources of the Library. Our Library is on open access.

We have a functional E-library with subscription to EBSCOHOST and other available databases both online and offline. These have provided us with reasonable quantity of relevant and current e-journals and e- books. Our E-library is located at Block A, Rms 15&16.
